My baby sleeps less (or more) than the norm — is that bad?
In short: Almost never. "Norms" are population medians, not targets. If your baby is active, eating, and growing — their norm may differ from the table.
Seeing "12 hours of sleep a day" in a recommendation while yours sleeps 10 is stressful. Here's what actually matters.
What "norm" means
It's a statistical median — half of babies sleep more, half less. Pediatric sleep research gives a wide range (e.g. 0–3 months: 14–17 hours). If your baby is inside the range, you're fine.
When to pay attention
- Persistent lethargy or hyperarousal
- Weight not tracking
- Waking every 30–60 minutes for more than two weeks straight
- Clear physical symptoms (cough, vomiting, rash)
In those cases — your pediatrician, not an app.
What Lupibu shows
The app shows your data and the age-appropriate range, not a diagnosis. 10.5 hours instead of 12 may simply be who your baby is.
Trust your baby more than the chart.
